Alessandro Masserdotti

Biography

Alessandro is a philosopher and interaction designer.
During his studies in Philosophy of Science in Bologna, he began conducting research in photography, video, and programming. In December 2004, he co-founded the multidisciplinary design studio Dotdotdot with Laura Dellamotta, Fabrizio Pignoloni, and Giovanna Gardi. In September 2014, they launched OpenDot Fab Lab, a center for research and innovation focused on rapid prototyping and technological experimentation. In 2025, OpenDot became a Foundation promoting social innovation through participatory design, open-source technology, and active community engagement. Alessandro enjoys working in multidisciplinary environments, blending his background in philosophy and programming with design and architecture. Over his 21 years of experience with Dotdotdot, he has collaborated with major cultural institutions including UNESCO, Fondazione Luigi Rovati, M9 – Museo del ’900 in Mestre, MAAT Lisbon, and HEK Basel, as well as with companies such as Golden Goose, Enel Green Power, Aboca, Alce Nero, and BMW. He teaches Interaction Design at Politecnico di Milano, with a particular focus on More Than Human Design, and has also taught at national and international institutions such as NABA – Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, Domus Academy, SUPSI – University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, ISIA Urbino, and CAFA – Central Academy of Fine Arts Beijing.
